The smart phone
The smart phone has taken control over the phone market with the various forms of phones now available. A smart phone is a gadget which can be used for general mobile communicating as well as computing. Whilst a regular mobile phone restricts the applications that a user can make use of, the smart phone allows users to install numerous applications which best fit their style of life.
Each smart phone out now has its own features which makes it extremely difficult to decide which one to buy. However, the general features which all smart phones have are; obviously to make phone calls and messaging, e-mailing, a personal organizer, music player and camera. It’s not only what’s on the inside of the smart phone that makes it so convenient in a day-to-day life but also the style of smart phones today. Smart phones are becoming smaller, smarter and stylish looking.
One of the top 5 smart phones is the iphone. The iphone which was created by apple ltd. combines a phone, ipod and internet device. The innovative phone is enhanced by the touch interface which turns dialing a phone number into a simple task of tapping in a name or number. Four characteristics of the iphone which makes it more advance than any other phone on the market are; the intellectual keyboard, the multi-touch interface, the accelerometer and the maps and GPS system. The QWERTY keyboard is more flexible than keyboards on other phones. This allows users to conveniently have all letters at their disposal rather than having to do repeat typing in order to get one letter. The touch interface allows users to control their phone with a simple stroke of the finger. The accelerometer means that gaming and other uses of the phone can be run by motion control. Simple movements such as a tilt or rotation can transform the phone experience into a virtual experience. Lastly the maps and GPS system lets users retrieve directions whilst on the go.
The newest iphone which is the iphone 3Gs has been recorded as being the fastest iphone to launch applications by a speed of two times more than the other iphones that are currently selling. Pages subsequently open in a fraction of the usual time it takes. The voice control feature not only recognizes the names of contacts but the names of all songs in the ipod.
The price of the iphone varies according to the different models. They range between £342.50 up to £440.40 on pay as you go.
In an interview with Miss Hollie Lam who owns an iphone 3Gs, she pointed out that one characteristic of the iphone which is good is that it is suitable for everyday life because the features on it allows access to mails. The app world enable instant downloads of the latest apps at any one time. However, she also identified a few disadvantages of the iphone such as no Bluetooth which means that file sharing is not as easy as it is with other mobile phone. Another criticism on the phone is the ineffective design which makes the phone prone to scratches and finger prints. Miss Lam would recommend this phone to people of her same age group (18 years) and gives it an 8 on a scale of one to ten with ten being the highest.
Another leading smart phone is the Blackberry. Blackberry phones have been on the market since 1999 however, in the past few years the blackberry has become an icon in the mobile phone industry.
